Solange: Stillness Is The Move (Dirty Projectors cover)

Welcome to Wild Tonic! What you'll find here, everyday, is a video or song I really enjoy or just have something to say about. Since this is the first post, we've got lots of catching up to do because there have been some wild songs and videos released in the past few days. First up: Solange.

Solange is mostly known as Beyonce Knowle's younger sister. However, in the past few years she's proven herself to the critics who were just waiting to call her another diva wannabe. Although she's capable of writing solid pop hooks, her style has more of a soul and R&B undertone to it.

Covering Dirty Projectors' "Stillness Is The Move" is only one more aspect that shows her open personality as a solo musician. Known for being a big fan of indie music, she took a song that was an R&B song in disguise and unveiled it as a polished and legitimate R&B tune that could easily have the song cross over into the mainstream.

Solange's rendition blends the chorus riff into another melody you may already be familiar with if you know the songs, "Bag Lady" (Erykah Badu), "XXplosive" (Dr. Dre), or "Bumpy's Lament" (Soul Mann & the Brothers).

Take a listen to her cover and then hear the original afterward.
